Way To Go Chris Jordan

Vikings' plan: Jordan rules

GENEVA – Geneva senior center Chris Jordan had his mission laid out for him all week in practice leading into Friday’s game against DeKalb.

With talented 6-foot-10 sophomore center Jordan Threloff assigned to cover Jordan, it was his turn to step outside against the big man and hit some jumpers.

“We told Chris in practice this week that the big guy is going to guard him and he’ll be able to step away from the basket,” Geneva coach Tim Pease said. “Chris can make baskets for us.”

In the first three possessions of Friday’s 79-56 Western Sun Conference win, Jordan got his Vikings off to a fast start using that philosophy.

He took the ball into the post and drew a foul on Threloff and hit both free throws to start the game. Then he hit a three-pointer from the wing and a three from the corner.

By the time he streaked in for a rebound put-back a few possessions later, Geneva had ripped off a tone-setting 13-2 start to the game.

“We knew when we did that we were in control and we weren’t going to let down,” Jordan said.

DeKalb (2-5 overall, 1-2 WSC) managed to claw back to within 25-17 in the second quarter, but Max Cary’s three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer sent the Vikings into the break up, 33-21.

That momentum carried over to the second half with layups from Jeremy D’Amico and Jordan and a three-pointer from Jordan to start the third quarter and push the lead to 40-21.

As has been typical of the team all season, somebody else took over from there for the Vikings (6-2, 2-1) in the third. It was point guard Alex Turnowchyk’s turn to get hot, and did he ever warm up.

He hit four three-pointers in the third quarter, scoring 14 total points. The final two threes put the lead out of reach at 59-34. He hit 5-of-7 from behind the arc in the game.

“Every game it’s a different person, so that’s what we work on in practice,” Turnowchyk said. “We have a bunch of guys we can rely on. We’re a bunch of team guys. We have good team chemistry. Nobody really cares who scores. We’re all happy for each other.”

Cary dipped into his soccer conditioning to wear the Barbs down in the fourth. With DeKalb trying to keep up with the run-and-gun Vikings, Cary looked like he was taking a stroll in the park, scoring 10 of his 19 points by beating the Barbs up and down the court for layups.

“It just proves to you how great their athletes are,” DeKalb coach David Rohlman said. “One of the things that I really think they do well is the way they share the basketball and move without the ball. They all seem to be working together.”

Cary and Jordan each scored 19 points to pace a balanced Geneva attack. Turnowchyk added 17 and D’Amico scored 15.

Despite having to chase Jordan around most of the night, Threloff still paced DeKalb with 16 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Point guard Jon Umoren added 15 and Tyler Smith scored 10 for the Barbs.

Grammie is a DIVA

Holy cow! That picture is GREAT! She was sure workin it! Looks like you guys had a great time and it sounds like you all did too! I called out there to get my name while shopping on Saturday. Sorry Uncle Ken, somehow I didn't get yours! :o( I spent Thanksgiving with the Vonhoffs which is always quite the fun- filled family day. This year was actually pretty good though, lots of laughing which is a little different. Must have been all of the wine! Attention was off me and my drama for once as my cousin Jennifer is dating a 48 YEAR OLD! Ok, for all of you out there pushing 50, I know 48 isn't old BUT when you're only 27, IT'S TOO OLD! Needless to say no one in the family is too keen on "Chuck" - yes, that's his name and he's more gray than my dad. Gotta love it. Jamie, Brad's girlfriend, went with me as Brad worked 3rd shift the night before. We all then went to Mom's later and had another small Thanksgiving dinner that night. Talk about being stuffed - I couldn't even drink more water after all that food but all in all it was a nice, quiet Thanksgiving.

So with that being said, BRING ON CHRISTMAS WITH THE CRAZY JORDANS!! I'm looking forward to it! It's SO nice not having to share holidays with crazy in-laws anymore...oops, did I say that?

PS - Uncle Ken, could you please change my email address on here to sarahvonhoff@sbcglobal.net? Thanks!!!

Our Patient

Bailey was going to be a pumpkin today for Halloween…

However, yesterday, she caught her ear on our fence when I let her out at lunchtime. We then had to go the emergency clinic in Hobart to get her all bandaged up. She didn’t need stitches, but they taped her hurt ear to the top of head so it will heal quicker.

So, I think instead for Halloween we’ll just call her “The Patient”, and save the pumpkin costume for next year. Happy Halloween!

Aerika home for one day

We spent a day at the Scarecrow fest and went pumpkin hunting. Then we went to a fish fry at grandma and grandpas to visit Oma! We feasted on the fish we caught in Canada to pretend like it was a shore lunch. We also carved the pumpkin's we got with the family! Oma is doing really good. She was laughing and having a great time with the kids and flyswatters(tell you about it later). Aerika is currently teaching me how to do this, so it might take some time before I get it right! Photos to follow once I figure this out! We'll be up bright and early tomorrow morning to take Aerika back to school!
P.S. This is our family picture from the Outer Banks, NC! (my practice picture)

AN IOWA STATE UPDATE!

hey everyone, I thought I'd write something just because I look at this every day and it's been a while since somebody wrote something!!
Let me just start off by saying that Iowa State BEAT the University of Iowa!! we beat them 15-13, we scored no touchdowns, all field goals haha, but it was one of the best football games I've ever been to! So, now Iowa is a cyclone state again! (corny, I know).

Anyways, school is going pretty good!
My room is amazing, it is almost as big as my room at home (maybe bigger I don't know)- It fits two lofted beds with desk/dresser underneath, futon, fridge, four littler roller dressers, and we have two big closets! Bri is my roommate, I met her last year and we've been best friends ever since. I see her a lot less this year because her boyfriend now goes here but it's okay because I like being in here by myself to relax and of course do homework! My dorm is much better than last year, the girls are nicer and the guys are too (its coed). I have some hard classes like ECON, other than that everything else is okay. I am reading all the time I have soo many books for each class. I am also taking social psychology which is very interesting; I really enjoy that class (I also have it with Steven =)), anthropology which is okay - also with steven, and journalism mass communication which is a fun class, my teacher is psycho, but shes awesome haha. The other class I am taking is World Religions which is pretty good, it's been kinda easy-I get a week to take exams and I get to take them home and they are open note-open book so I like that!

I have a job at Bath and Body Works here in Ames. So far it's been going great! I have had lots of hours this past week because I was one of the few that had to prep for inventory, and I also had to be there at 6AM Sunday morning last weekend which was terrible, but I got paid to sit around and watch people count for four hours haha. I get more hours here than I did during the summer at the BBW at the Commons.

For all of you who really want to know, Steven and I are great! This friday is our 10 month!! I told him I would pay, but he doesn't know that I am cooking him an italian themed dinner! I'm very nervous about cooking this because I can't cook haha, but it's just spaghetti, meatballs, and garlic bread. My mom sent me a bunch of decorations to put in my dorm, so it's going to be very decorated and be as italian as a dorm room can be! I have been looking forward to doing this since our last anniversary haha, so I am very excited! But other than that, we're good! We just got two new fishys! We are soo excited about them! We got them about a week or so ago and actually his first one died, so we got another one and he is doing great! My fishs name is Nala and his is named Lieutenant Dan (from Forest Gump). They both are very lively, but mine is way more spastic than his haha.

I am most likely coming home next weekend or the weekend after that to see Oma because she leaves soon. (No offense to anybody else-I'm sure I'll see some of you =)) In about three weeks is Family weekend here so I'm pretty excited about that, it was so much fun last year!

I think thats about all I have to report on about my life for now! I hope everyone is well and if you wanna come visit me you can because I would love it! (I have a futon, so you could probablly fit three people on it! hehe)
have a great day everyone!

4th of July Fun

Well we all survived Brad's 4th of July party. The weather held out (minus a few light showers) and we had a blast. The day was filled with Bean Bag challenges, a slip and slide and great food and company. I'm not sure what my favorite moment was.....Grammie doing a Jell-O shot or Mom trying to go down the slip and slide on her butt and watching her come to a dead stop only 2 feet down and falling on her back. I think that explains the rash on my arm....I collapsed into laughter on the grass for quite some time. Will try to upload some pictures later once I have them all! I hope you all had a Happy 4th! I can't believe that summer is just moving right along.

It's Almost Time for Camp

For all of the campers in the family: your camp checklist is supposed to be arriving with your letter stating who your counselor is. But with all of your vast camping experience, just throw it in. I love your picture, but where did we pick up a stray Jordan?

We'll be back to you after Germany. Love ya! NJ & DJ

Blog Regulations

For those of you worried about internet security, I made this blog only available to people that we invite. As the 'administrator' of this blog, I have to invite people. I, of course, will be happy to invite anyone who y'all want to invite. Just as an FYI, you can make a new post, or you can comment on anyone's post by clicking on the comments of the post.

End Of School Year

Yeah, Nick and Kyle are really looking forward to the end of the year. Nick has a final today, the he is done. Hopefully, he will start blogging then. Kyle is going to school, but they are doing nothing that is scholarly. Danielle is doing an internship at Davidson-we expect to see her this weekend. Here is a pic of Nick playing goalie for the East Chapel Hill High School JV lacrosse team.

My first blog

Hi family,
This is my first time writing a blog...so here it goes. Today is Tuesday, June 5th, and in two more days we're (DJ, NJ, Andrew, & me) headed to Germany for Conny Felzer's wedding. Mom's taking her camera and Andrew's taking his camera and video camera. So, between those two, we should take plenty of pictures and video coverage of the wedding events for all to see!! Talk to ya'll later.

My first blog as well!

I feel like the techy college nerds that I hire!! This should be a fun and a good way to keep in touch. I wish I had exciting news to share. Still waiting for things to be finalized on my end. If you could all keep your fingers and toes crossed that our house will sell quickly, that would be much appreciated! ;o) Looking forward to seeing you all on here! Hugs!

PS - I attached a picture from Grammie's b-day. It's a good one of well at least MOST of us that I keep as my wallpaper at work.

Welcome to blogging

Ok folks. This is just another way for us to keep up with each other, a bit. You can contribute when and how much you want. I hope that it is very active. I would like to make sure all the grandkids have been invited.
